By Jacky Thomas, Director of Annual Giving
We started the fiscal year with a major reorganization of our solicitation calendar – introducing Class Correspondents (peer-to-peer volunteer fundraisers) for our twelve youngest classes and moving our Phonathon program back by a full month. This resulted in dramatically different numbers in our weekly reports year-to-date for the first two quarters, effectively putting us in a game of catch up. This is reflected in the chart below for alumni participation.
The Parent Fund continues to thrive and currently outpaces alumni participation by five percentage points. It is normal for parent giving to be ahead at this time of year, with alumni participation overtaking that of parents right at the end of the year. This said, we are moving ever closer to the day when the final parent participation number matches that of alumni. Current parent participation is 41%.
More good news – membership in both of our annual giving gift clubs continues to be strong. We currently have 878 Centre Associates, 117 of which are GOLD alumni, and 2,572 Colonels Club members, 180 of which are GOLD. It is good news that more and more alumni feel compelled and are able to commit a gift of $100 or more. We are continually heartened by the generosity shown by our gift clubs members.
The fall Phonathon program set a new record for dollars raised, bringing in $342,873 in gifts and pledges from more than 2,500 donors. The rest of the annual giving program follows suit, with over $570,000 in unrestricted gifts, compared with $530,000 this time last year.
In short, while our numbers show some ground that still needs to be made up, we remain confident that our program is moving in a positive direction, and we extend a sincere thank you to the 5,376 donors who have already committed their support to Centre this year.
